Investing in Moroccan Mining: A Due-Diligence Roadmap

Mining investment combines geological, legal, environmental, operational and commercial uncertainty. A polished presentation can explain an opportunity, but due diligence must test the evidence beneath it.

Step 1: Define the investment case

Identify the commodity, deposit model, project stage, funding requirement, intended return path and decisions expected during the next 12–24 months. A clear thesis prevents the review from becoming an unfocused collection of documents.

Step 2: Verify the mining title

Confirm the title type, perimeter, holder, validity, work commitments, renewal status, transfer conditions and applicable authority. Morocco’s Law 33-13 and implementing texts are the core official references. Contracts and regulatory conclusions require qualified Moroccan legal advice.

Step 3: Rebuild the geological story

Review regional geology, mineral occurrences, mapping, sampling, analytical certificates, QA/QC, geophysics, trenching, drilling and historical interpretations. Separate facts from assumptions and identify what data were never collected.

Step 4: Test technical plausibility

Ask whether the proposed deposit model explains the observed lithology, structure, alteration, mineralogy and geochemistry. Check whether targets are spatially coherent and whether alternative explanations were considered.

Step 5: Examine processing and product questions

Mineralogy and metallurgy determine whether mineralisation can become a saleable product. Review recovery assumptions, deleterious elements, variability, product specifications, transport and potential buyers.

Step 6: Review environment and social context

Consider water, waste, rehabilitation, biodiversity, land access, local communities and cumulative impacts. Morocco’s sustainable-development framework and mine-rehabilitation obligations should be integrated into project planning.

Step 7: Build a staged verification plan

Good due diligence ends with decisions: proceed, proceed conditionally, redesign the work program or stop. Each proposed exploration phase should have a budget, technical objective and decision gate.
